Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common problem in men that is usually due to physical issues associated with an underlying medical illness. Physical factors are present in more than 80 % of patients. Dr. Freedman offers many options for treating ED.

ED can be a total inability to achieve an erection or it can be a tendency to achieve erections that are not sustained. It is seen more often in men who have diabetes, hypertension, a history of smoking, or in men who have had prostate surgery.

An inflatabile penile prosthesis (IPP) is the most effective long-term option for treating ED. It is a minimally invasive surgery that is usually performed on an outpatient basis. Patient satisfaction rates are 97% in studies that have been published. Mechanical reliability is high (97% after 5 years), and the device is not visably noticable. Dr. Freedman has over 25 years of experience implanting IPP's to correct ED.

While the IPP is the most effective treatment, Dr. Freedman also uses other methods to treat ED including:

Oral therapy
Vacuum constrictor devices
Injectables
